2023年9月7日、米国議会図書館（LC）の障害者サービス部門である「視覚障害者及びプリントディスアビリティのある人々のための全国図書館サービス」（NLS）が、活字による読書が困難な利用者に優れたサービスを提供している図書館を対象とした“Library of the Year”の2023年度の受賞館2館を発表しました。
“Regional Library of the Year Award”には、ニュージャージー州立図書館のTalking Book and Braille Centerが選ばれました。約1万4,000人の登録者に対してオーディオ資料や点字資料を提供しているほか、全米視覚障害者連合（NFB）のオーディオニュースサービス“NFB-NEWSLINE”の州窓口として、同州内の3,300人以上の加入者に対してサービスを行っています。
“Sub-regional Library/Advisory and Outreach Center of the Year Award”には、ミシガン州マスキーゴン地区図書館のLibrary for the Visually and Physically Disabled Branchが選ばれました。マスキーゴン郡とオタワ郡の約940人の登録者に対し、フルタイムの図書館員1人とパートタイムの読書アドバイザー1人で運営しています。地域の高齢者団体に大活字書籍セットを毎月届けるサービスや、詩や短編小説等を毎週録音して電話で提供するサービス等を提供しています。
両館には1,000ドルと記念の盾が授与されたとあります。
