イリノイ州の253図書館が参加する図書館システム“Alliance Library System”が、米国医学図書館から4万ドル（約480万円）の補助を受けて、Second Life上の仮想図書館で、医療情報のレファレンスサービス“Providing Consumer Health Outreach and Library Programs to Virtual World Residents in Second Life”を展開しています。
またセカンドライフ上での活動を紹介するブログ“infoisland.org”では、医療情報のヴァーチャル・レファレンスサービスの受け方を、スライドショーで紹介しています。
