2016年4月20日、Springer Natureは自然科学系雑誌68タイトルに掲載された研究論文に基づく指標、Nature Indexの2016年版を公開しました。
Nature Indexは2014年にベータ版の公開が始まった指標で、対象となる68誌に過去12ヵ月間に掲載された論文について、共著者の割合に応じて国・研究機関ごとに論文数を案分した指標等を提供しています。特に論文数の多い宇宙物理学分野の雑誌の値を正規化したWFC（Weighted Fractional Count）に基づくと、2015年のNature Indexが最も高かったのは米国（17203.82）で、次いで中国（6478.34）、ドイツ（4078.09）と続き、日本は5位でした（3053.48）。日本のWFCの値は2014年位比べ5.2%減少したとのことです。
また、2016年版全体の公開に先立つ2016年3月17日には、Nature本誌7594号の付録として、日本の詳細を分析した”Nature Index 2016 Japan”も公開されています。
