2023年4月18日、Ithaka S+Rが、イシューブリーフ“By Any Measure：The Racial Demographics of Librarians”および“Changing the Racial Demographics of Librarians”を公開しました。米国において、図書館員がどの程度人種的に多様なのかについて調査したものです。
“By Any Measure：The Racial Demographics of Librarians”では、米国の図書館員の人種的人口構成の現状を正確に把握することは困難であることを述べた上で、それでもデータは一貫して図書館員は白人が多い職業であることを示しているとし、図書館員の85％が白人であり、10年後には図書館員の83％が白人になるとの予測が示されています。
“Changing the Racial Demographics of Librarians”では、非白人の図書館員を増加させ、よりよい図書館環境を提供するための人材育成プログラムについて論じています。
