2021年3月30日、米国図書館協会（ALA）図書館史ラウンドテーブル (LHRT) 、2020年度の小論文賞（Justin Winsor Library History Essay Award）を発表しました。
選ばれたのは、米・アイオワ大学図書館情報学部の准教授Jennifer Burek Pierce氏による“More Than a Room with Books: The Development of Author Visits for Young People in Mid-Century U.S. Public Libraries”です。
ALAの戦後計画委員会（Post-War Planning Committee）の一次資料や同時代の地方紙の記事をもとに、ニューアーク公共図書館のヤングアダルトサービス担当の図書館員であったBeatrice Schein氏が、第二次世界大戦後の図書館現場の現代化のためのALAの指令を超えただけでなく、他の公共図書館員が見習うべきロールモデルとなったことを徹底的に証明したものです。その結果、若い読者に刺激を与えるために、オーサービジットという活動が始まったとしています。
これまであまり検討されてこなかったテーマへの深い洞察があることや、優れた調査と分かりやすい文体が評価されて、今回、同賞に選ばれました。
