2014年3月18日付で、電子学位論文（ETDs）のライフサイクル管理指針“Guidance Documents for Lifecycle Management of ETDs”が公開されました。
学位論文の提出や公開にあたっては、紙媒体から電子媒体へと移行が進み、情報流通の大幅な促進がもたらされたと同時に、大学図書館は、電子媒体の学位論文を保存しなければならないという課題に直面することとなりました。この指針では、こうした問題意識に基づき、大学において確実に電子学位論文（ETDs）を保存するため、ノーステキサス大学図書館のほか大学図書館6館とEducopia、 MetaArchive Cooperative、電子学位論文の国際的ネットワーク（Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations：NDLTD）の協力を得て、ベストプラクティスをまとめたとのことです。アクセスレベルやエンバーゴについてのガイド、著作権やフェアユース、電子学位論文の利用統計の取得やその価値の証明などが取り上げられているようです。
