カナダの視覚障害者団体であるCNIB（Canadian National Institute for the Blind）の図書館が、DAISY形式のオーディオブックを配信する“Direct to Player”というサービスを2013年12月3日から開始していたようです。
“Direct to Player”は、同館の利用者を対象に、Wi-Fi機能の付いたDAISY形式のプレイヤーにオーディオブックを無料で配信するサービスとのことです。“Direct to Player”には12冊のオーディオブックが納められる仮想的な本棚が準備されており、利用者が指定したジャンルや著者などに基づいて、システムが自動的に選択した本が追加されるということです。不要な本を削除すれば、新しい本が自動的に追加される仕組みみとのことです。本の選択にあたっては、図書館システムによる自動選択のほか、CNIB Libraryの職員にアドバイスを求めることもできるとのことです。
CNIB Libraryでは、パソコンが使用できない高齢者等へのサービスを解決するため、パソコンを利用する必要のない配信サービスを導入したとのことです。
