シカゴ公共図書館にある“YOUMedia”というティーン向けのラーニングラボが、米国の各紙で取り上げられています。これは、11月17日に発表された米国博物館・図書館サービス機構（IMLS）によるラーニングラボ企画公募のきっかけとなったもので、YOUMediaには数千冊の図書とともに、100台以上のラップトップやデスクトップコンピュータ等を備えているようです。利用者はここでキーボード等を使ってレコーディングを行ったり、コンピュータにインストールされているソフトウェアを使ってコンテンツを作ったりする等、デジタルメディアに関するスキルの育成をはかれるようです。導入にあたっては館内の騒音を懸念する声もあったようですが、2009年にこのYOUMediaがオープンして以来日々定員の100名が利用しており、また図書の貸出も500％アップしたようです。
