2018年11月29日、英・電子情報保存連合（DPC）が2018年の“Digital Preservation Awards”を発表しました。
同賞は2004年に創設されたもので、2018年は6つの賞が設けられており、デジタル保存に関するすぐれた取組や、デジタル保存の進展に多大な功績のあった個人に与えられます。
DPCは、デジタル保存に関する取組の社会における認知度向上のため、2017年11月30日を“International Digital Preservation Day”として様々なイベントを開催しました。2018年も同様に、11月29日を“World Digital Preservation Day”としており、今回の発表も同日に開かれたデジタル保存に関する国際会議において行われたものです。
各賞の概要と受賞者は次のとおりです。
○The Software Sustainability Institute (SSI) Award for Research and Innovation
すぐれた実用的研究や革新的取組に対して授与される賞であり、eメールアーカイブの運用サポートのためにスタンフォード大学図書館が開発したソフトウェア“ePADD”が受賞しました。
○The DPC Award for Teaching and Communications
すぐれたアウトリーチ活動、研修、アドヴォカシーに対して授与される賞であり、フロッピーディスクのコントローラー“Kryoflux”のアーキビスト用ガイドブック作成の取組が受賞しました。カリフォルニア大学ロサンゼルス校等、複数の大学のデジタルアーキビストが共同で作成したものです。
○The National Records of Scotland (NRS) Award for the Most Distinguished Student Work in Digital Preservation
学生のすぐれた業績に対して与えられる賞であり、イリノイ大学アーバナ・シャンペーン校のAnna Oates氏による、電子版学位論文のPDF/Aフォーマットへの準拠状況の調査が受賞しました。
○The Open Data Institute (ODI) Award for the Most Outstanding Digital Preservation Initiative in Commerce, Industry and the Third Sector
企業や第三セクターなど、記憶機関（Memory Institution）以外によるデジタル保存に関するツールやアプローチの採用に対して与えられる賞であり、英国の鉄道インフラプロジェクト“Crossrail”による、プロジェクトデータ保存のためのアーカイブ構築の取組が受賞しました。
○The National Archives Award for Safeguarding the Digital Legacy
保存上の問題に直面したデジタル資料への保存ツールの活用に対して与えられる賞であり、アイルランド映画協会（Irish Film Institute：IFI）によるデジタル資料管理のためのPythonスクリプト開発の取組が受賞しました。
○The DPC Fellowship Award
デジタル保存の分野で貢献のあった個人に対して与えられる賞であり、デジタル資料の長期保存を目指す非営利団体“Open Preservation Foundation”（OPF）の議長を務めるBarbara Sierman氏が受賞しました。
