2018年8月28日、国際図書館連盟（IFLA）“Public Library of the Year Award 2018”にオランダのデン・ヘルダー市にあるSchool 7（KopGroep Bibliotheken）が選ばれました。
マレーシア・クアラルンプールで開催されていたIFLAの年次大会で発表されたもので、同賞のスポンサー企業であるSystematic社からのプレスリリースによると、年齢や言語を問わず多様な住民が、読書に加え、仕事のために利用、講座やワークショップへの参加が可能なほか、熱心なボランティアが子どもにプログラミングを教えたり、子どもが大声で本を読んだりするなど、地域のリビングルームのような利用のされ方をされていること、そして、そのことを反映した建築が評価されたようです。建物内の劇場で結婚式をあげたり、カフェで誕生日を祝ったりすることも可能となっています。また、社会の持続可能性に焦点を当てた活動を行っていることや、古い学校の建物と新しい図書館を調和させた建築であることも指摘されています。
同館長によると、賞金5,000米ドルは、児童書の購入や、図書館員やボランティアと祝賀会に開催に充てるとしています。
