2017年9月14日、北米研究図書館協会（ARL）が、図書館や文書館が直面する著作権に関する問題についてのイシューブリーフ2点を公開しました。
“Using Fair Use to Preserve and Share Disappearing Government Information”では、インターネットから政府情報を保存・共有する際の複雑な法的問題を考察し、フェアユースの原則が政府情報を保存・共有することを支持していることを説明しています。
“Metadata and Copyright: Should Institutions License Their Data about Scholarship?”では、メタデータが著作権で保護されるべきかどうかを様々な状況下で検討し、またメタデータのライセンスについてのポリシーやコミュニティーの基準について考察するとともに、その広範な利用や共有を推奨しつつ、メタデータにライセンスを認めるかどうかについての推奨事項を提案しています。
