2026年7月17日付けで、欧州連合（EU）が、欧州の公共図書館の多様な役割と将来像をまとめた調査報告書“Strengthening Europe through public libraries”をウェブサイト上で公開しました。EU理事会が設置した33か国36人の専門家から成るグループが取りまとめたものです。
欧州各地の公共図書館が、教育や文化にとどまらず、民主主義、ビジネス、健康、環境、地域コミュニティーなど幅広い分野で社会的な役割を果たしている実態を紹介し、継続的な投資と政策的な支援の必要性を訴えています。
