英国では、先週ブラウン新政権が誕生しましたが、それに伴い高等教育・科学技術を統括する新しい省庁”Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS)”が設立されました。
DIUSは、これまで教育・雇用訓練省（DfES）が担ってきた高等教育・継続教育に関する政策、および貿易産業省（DTI）が担ってきた科学技術に関する政策を引継ぎ、科学・研究・大学の結びつきを強めてダイナミックな知識ベースの経済を作り出すことを目的とすると発表されています。
