フロリダ大学情報管理政策研究所が、公共図書館におけるインターネット提供に関する報告書“PublicPublic Libraries and the Internet 2006: Study Results and Findings”をまとめ公表しています。
98.4パーセントの公共図書館で利用者にインターネットを提供しており、とりわけサービス対象にスラム街を多く抱える図書館では、提供率が100パーセントに達しているそうです。また1館あたりの端末保有台数は平均10.7台ですが、約45パーセントの図書館で今後2年以内に増設予定、あるいは増設を検討しているそうです。
一方で45パーセントの図書館では、接続速度が遅く需要を満たしきれていないとのことです。
