米国図書館史の研究者ウィーガンド（Wayne A. Wiegand）氏が、2017年4月13日に、米国議会図書館（LC）のJohn W. Kluge Centerで行った、同氏の現在の研究テーマである、米国の公立学校図書館史に関する講演“How Long, O Lord, Do We Roam in the Wilderness？ A History of School Librarianship”のウェブキャスト(動画)及びトランスクリプトを、LCが公開しました
ウィーガンド氏は、John W. Kluge Centerの客員研究員として、2017年1月から5月初めまでの間、LCの資料を用いて同テーマの調査を行なっており、研究では、「公立学校の教育の歴史」「米国図書館史」「読書の社会史（印刷史も含む）」「子どもの歴史」「場としての文化機関の歴史」の5つの視点を組み込んでいるとのことです。
講演のタイトルは、著明な学校図書館の指導者の1979年の論文から引用したもので、教育の専門家と図書館の専門家の間で、両者から見過ごされたり、過小評価された、学校図書館職員の数十年間の不満を表現しているとのことです。
