2015年5月12日、トムソンロイター（Thomson Reuteres）社が、世界の主要な大学の学術評価に影響を与えている研究傾向と変化に関する報告書“Exploring Scholarly Trends and Shifts Impacting the Academic Reputation of the World’s Leading Universities”を公表しました。
2010年から2014年の5年間の調査では以下のような主な知見があったとのことです。
・5年に渡ってハーバード大学が全体的に世界的なリーダーである。
・ニューヨーク大学とキングスカレッジロンドンが学術評価で最高の上昇傾向が認識された。
・学際的な大学のほうが専門機関より一般的な評価が強い傾向がある。しかし主題への粒度の細かいアプローチはその分野での評価を卓越させることができる。
・地域的な認識はしばしば世界的な認識と対照的である。
・いくつかの例外を除き、大学の研究の量（他の地域の著者との共著の論文を含む）は一般的に評価と相互関連がある。
