2023年9月12日、英国物理学会出版局（IOP Publishing）と応用物理学会が、同学会のレター論文誌“Applied Physics Express”を、完全オープンアクセスに転換すると発表しました。
発表によると、2024年1月から同誌掲載の全ての論文が、誰でも即座に読むことができるようになります。また、IOP Publishingは低所得国及び低中所得国に拠点を置く研究者に対して、論文掲載料（APC）の免除を自動的に適用するとともに、応用物理学会正会員に対しては20%のAPC割引を行うとしています。
