2019年5月23日、ドイツ図書館協会（Deutschen Bibliotheksverbandes：DBV）とドイツテレコム財団（Deutsche Telekom Stiftung）は、両者が選出している“Bibliothek des Jahres（Library of the Year）”の2019年受賞館として、ベルリン中央・地域図書館（Zentral- und Landesbibliothek Berlin：ZLB）を選出したことを発表しました。
オープンなデザインスペースを提供する“Community-Projekte”の取り組み、映画等のストリーミングサービス“filmfriend”をベルリン公共図書館協会（Verbund der Öffentlichen Bibliotheken Berlins：VÖBB）とともにドイツ国内で最も早く提供したこと、ウェブサイト上でベルリンの地域史に関するデジタル化されたリソースを公開する“Digitale Landesbibliothek Berlin”の取り組み、他の地域団体とともに行った国際的な図書館関係者向けイベント“Next Library Conference 2018”の開催等が評価され、社会とメディアの変化に対応し、他の図書館の模範となる参加型サービス・デジタルサービスを展開しているとして、審査委員会の満場一致でZLBが2019年の“Library of the Year”に選出されました。
2019年10月24日の“Tag der Bibliotheken（Day of the libraries）”に、20回目となる授与式が行われる予定です。
