2021年4月28日、米・イェール大学図書館が、旧式のCD-ROMを現行のコンピュータシステムで利用できるようにしたエミュレーションビューワの公開を発表しています。同大学の学生と研究者は、当該CD-ROMの目録情報からのリンクをクリックすればコンテンツを利用できます。
同ビューワは、Andrew W. Mellon財団とAlfred P. Sloan財団の助成を受けた、同館のデジタル保存チームおよびソフトウェアへの長期アクセスのための団体Software Preservation Network等によるEaaSI(Emulation-as-a-Service Infrastructure) プログラムが提供しているもので、現在、同館が所蔵する5,000点以上のCD-ROMのうち約150点がアップロードされています。作業は現在も継続中ですが、全てのCD-ROMが利用できるようにするには約3年かかるとしています。
