2020年5月31日、アイルランドの農村・コミュニティ開発省（Department of Rural and Community Development）のMichael Ring大臣は、公共図書館の電子書籍・オーディオブック整備に20万ユーロの支援を実施することを発表しました。
この政府による支援は新型コロナウイルス感染症拡大の影響により大幅に増加した公共図書館のオンラインサービス需要への対応として行われ、感染症拡大初期の2020年3月に行われた20万ユーロの支援への追加として実施されます。また、アクセシブルな電子書籍再生用ソフトウェア“EasyReader”向けコレクションの充実へ2万ユーロの支援を行うことも併せて発表されています。
アイルランド政府は、新型コロナウイルス感染症による社会活動の制限の撤廃に向けた計画として、“Roadmap for reopening society and business”を発表しており、公共図書館は2020年6月8日に開始予定の第2段階において、人数制限・ソーシャルディスタンシングの確保・厳格な手指消毒等の条件の下で、再開館する見込みです。
