2013年4月23日、米国のInternet2が年次会合で、スミソニアン協会と協力することを発表しました。
これにより、スミソニアン協会の博物館や研究施設等は超高速なネットワークでつながれ、Internet2に加盟している大学等は、スミソニアン協会とのデジタルコンテンツのやりとりがより容易になるとのことです。また、コンテンツの共有に加え、Internet2のオーディオやテレビ会議技術を使ったスミソニアンのシアターセンター等の共同企画も検討されているとのことです。
