米国のU.S.News誌が毎年選んでいる“Best Careers”の2009年版が発表されています。薬剤師、政治家、エンジニア、ゴーストライターなど30の“Best Careers”の中に、2007年版、2008年版に引き続き、ライブラリアンが選ばれています。職業紹介の記事（概要、ある日の様子、給料等）も掲載されています。
また、過剰評価されている（overrated）職業の中に医学科学者（Medical Scientist）と大学教授が含まれており、それぞれの代替（alternative）として、医学図書館員（Medical Librarian）、大学図書館員（及びプログラム・アナリスト）が勧められています。このほか、30のBest Careersのほかに選ばれている、11の“Best-Kept-Secret Careers”（秘密にしておきたいおすすめの職業）及び13の“Ahead of the Curve”（時代の先端の職業）の中に、健康情報専門家（Health informatics specialist）が選ばれています。また後者には、データマイニング担当者（Data miner）なども含まれています。
なお、U.S.News誌の評価では、ライブラリアンの仕事の満足度はA、トレーニングの難易度、名声（prestige）はともにB、求人市場はB/C、平均給与は数字が出されている29の職業のうちで下から3番目となっています。これは2008年版とまったく同じです。
