オーストラリアには、法務省による刊行物等の審査・分類制度（Classification）がありますが、同省が2007年5月、「テロ行為を擁護する刊行物・映画・ゲームを審査の対象から外す（＝審査以前のものとして禁止する）」という法改正案を作成し、パブリック・コメントを求めました。これに対し、同国出身である国際図書館連盟（IFLA）のバーン（Alex Byrne）会長が、個人的意見との断りつきながら、「このような検閲行為は、自由な市民社会、情報の自由を脅かす危険なもの」であると反対の意を提出しています。
なお同様に、オーストラリア図書館協会（ALIA）など図書館関係4団体も反対の意を表明しています。
