1743年に設立された、Darby Free Library（ペンシルバニア州デラウェア郡）について、閉館の可能性が報じられています。同館は、現在まで運営が継続されている米国の図書館としては最古とされています。
報道によると、既に赤字経営となっているのに加え、必要な電気工事の経費がまかなえない状況にあり、追加の資金調達が行えない場合には、閉館の判断もあり得るとのことです。
なお同館は、2009年にも閉館の可能性が報じられ、その際には、寄付等により、開館が維持されました。
