米国の“ビッグ6”に数えられる大手出版社のひとつ、サイモン＆シュスター（Simon & Schuster）社は、図書館に対して電子書籍を提供していません。しかしこのたび、あるタイトルについて、OverDrive社の電子書籍サービス経由で図書館に提供することになったそうです。そのタイトルは、Jean Thompson氏による“The Year We Left Home”という小説で、2013年の“All Iowa Reads”賞を受賞したものです。同賞の主催委員会は、サイモン＆シュスター社に対して、賞の歴史や、受賞作品がアイオワ州でいかに読まれているか、どのくらい販売されているか、図書館で借りられているかといったデータを提示し、説得を行なったということです。2013年1月1日より電子書籍での提供が開始される予定です。
