2012年4月10日に、フィンランドの教育・文化省が2011年の同国の公共図書館統計を発表しました。統計によると、2011年1年間のフィンランドの公共図書館の貸出数は約1億点で、公共図書館来館者数は延べ5,300万人、図書館のインターネットサービスの利用件数は5,700万回になるとのことで、これはフィンランドの全住民が平均して年10回公共図書館を訪れ、約18点の資料を借りた計算になるようです。教育・文化省はこの統計をもとに、フィンランド人が読書と図書館利用に熱心であるとしています。なお、統計データはフィンランド語のほかに英語版でもオンライン公開されています。
