1987年以来、毎年9月は米国図書館協会（ALA）の定める図書館カード登録月間（National Library Card Signup Month）となっています。2011年も米国各地の公共図書館等でカード登録者を増やすキャンペーンが開催されたり、カード登録者に対して地域のレストラン等での割引サービス等が行なわれたりしているようです。
