2016年7月19日付の、Googleのブログで、Google Cultural Instituteと連携する機関等の、文化遺産コンテンツを閲覧できるサービス“Google Arts & Culture”とそのアプリの機能がアップデートされたことが発表されています。
今回のアプリのアップデートにより、仮想現実（VR）に関する機能が強化されたほか、新機能である“Art Recognizer”に対応したコレクションもあることが発表されています。“Art Recognizer”は現在試行中の機能で、“Google Arts & Culture”で展示されている作品に端末のカメラを向けることで、作品に関する情報が表示されるという機能です。
“Dulwich Picture Gallery”（英国）、“ Art Gallery of New South Wales”（オーストラリア）、“National Gallery of Art, Washington DC”（米国）などが対応しています。
