2018年8月28日、生命科学分野のプレプリントが一元的に入るリポジトリの構築を目指すASAPbioプロジェクトが、査読レポートの公開に関する公開書簡を公開しました。

査読者・編集者の説明責任の拡大、学生への査読過程の教育、同分野の文脈に即しての読者の理解の強化、査読の信用度提供といった。査読過程の透明性確保においてメリットがあることから、査読レポートの公開（必ずしも査読者の名前や著者からの回答は必要ではない）を他の雑誌にも呼びかけるもので、ベストプラクティスの調査においては、そのような多様な公開方法への反応に関する情報も収集するとしています。

公開書簡に対して多数の署名が寄せられています。
