ボストンの公共放送局であるWGBHと米国議会図書館（LC）が、米国における公共放送の歴史的コレクションを提供するデータベース“American Archive of Public Broadcasting (AAPB)” において音声・映像資料をOnlineで公開したと発表しています。

全国の100以上の公共メディア機関の貢献により、現在、AAPBのウェブサイトでは1940年代から2010年代のものをストリーミングで視聴することが可能とのことです。

250万件の目録情報で2015年春に開始したAAPBのウェブサイトでは、今回、全国の公共メディア・ステーションから集めた歴史的なコンテンツ約7,000件がストリーミングファイルで閲覧できるようになったとのことです。

6万8千のデジタルファイルからなる4万時間近い、歴史的な公共放送のコンテンツが既に保存されており、ウェブサイトでは、そのうち、1940年代にさかのぼる、7千に近い米国のラジオとテレビ番組が公開されているとのことです。

4万時間にも及ぶ全てのコレクションは、研究目的のために、WGBHとLCの館内で視聴ができるとのことです。

AAPBは特徴的で歴史的に重要な資料の焦点をあてた以下の3つの展示も始めたとのことです。

・Voices from the Southern Civil Rights Movement
・Climate Change Conversations: Cause, Impacts, Solutions
