米国出版協会(AAP)と米国の著作権団体Authors Guild、“Z-Library”運営者の起訴に関するコメントを公開

2022年11月16日に米国の著作権団体Authors Guild、11月17日に米国出版協会(AAP)が、“Z-Library”運営者の起訴を歓迎するコメントを公開しました。

米国司法省の発表によると、“Z-Library”は、2009年から運用されており、著作権保護処置を取り除いた様々なファイル形式の電子書籍を提供し、利用者にファイルのアップロードとダウンロードを推奨していました。11月3日に連邦政府によりドメイン押収とウェブサイトの閉鎖、運営に関わっていた2人の逮捕が行われ、11月16日に、著作権侵害、通信詐欺、マネーロンダリングの罪で同2人が起訴されました。

これに関し、Authors Guildは、高額な高等教育コストのために、海賊版サイトや無料の教科書入手先に頼らざるを得なかった学生に同情しないわけではないものの、そういったコストは著者や出版社が負うものではなく、違法行為に頼ることを正当化したり著者の経済的被害を矮小化するべきではないと述べています。AAPは、産業規模の著作権侵害を容認しないという明確なメッセージであると述べています。
