2020年8月31日、米・SPARCが、2020年のオープンアクセスウィーク（International Open Access Week）のテーマを“Open with Purpose: Taking Action to Build Structural Equity and Inclusion”と発表しました。
2018年（テーマ“Designing Equitable Foundations for Open Knowledge”）及び2019年（テーマ“Open for Whom? Equity in Open Knowledge”）開催時の議論に基づき、2020年も3年連続で公平性と包摂性に関する行動が急務であることに焦点を当てており、この事業を中心に据え続けることの緊急性を強調しています。
オープンアクセスウィークは毎年10月に、世界各地でオープンアクセスに関連する様々なイベントを開催する取り組みで、今年は10月19日から25日にかけて行われます。
