Publication of a Report on Library Facilities and Their Functions as Hubs for Community Development
The National Diet Library has published a report describing a research project conducted during fiscal 2019 on Library Facilities and Their Functions as Hubs for Community Development.
How do library facilities built with the intention of forming regional hubs function in practice? And what are the important points when developing future library facilities? This research project addresses these questions, among others. To explore the characteristics of such facilities and how they function as regional hubs, five domestic public libraries were taken as case studies and examined by means of staff interviews and the inspection of library facilities. As part of a study of relevant literature, the compilation of documents and papers related to library facilities, as well as a review of past Japan Library Association’s Library Architecture Award winners, were used as sources of information.
We hope that this report will be utilized by a wide range of people.
