2017年8月14日、米国化学会（ACS）は、化学分野のプレプリントサーバー“ChemRxiv”のベータ版を公開したことを発表しました。
構築には英国王立化学協会（Royal Society of Chemistry：RSC）やドイツ化学会（Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker：GDCh）などが戦略的な助言を行っており、またfigshareの新しいプレプリントサービスを利用しています。管理・運営はACSが行ない、2018年まで継続的にアップデートが行なわれる予定です。
2016年8月に、ACSは“ChemRxiv”構築の意向を表明していました。
