2015年9月16日、トムソン・ロイター社（Thomson Reuters）が、大学の所有する特許および学術論文の引用情報などから特許取得の広がり（国際性）やインパクト（引用数）、産業界との連携論文などを分析し、最も科学と技術に貢献し、世界経済に大きな影響を与えている革新的な大学100校を特定した“The World Most Innovative Universities”を発表しました。
日本からは、18位に大阪大学、22位に京都大学、24位に東京大学、39位に東北大学、51位に東京工業大学、58位に慶応大学、81位に九州大学、89位に名古屋大学、98位に北海道大学の9大学が入っています。
