2013年10月30日、IFLAが通信監視への人権適用に関する国際原則“International Principles on the Application of Human Rights to Communications Surveillance”に署名したと発表しました。
この原則は、Privacy International、Electronic Frontier Foundation、Access、Human Rights Watch、Reporters Without Borders、Association for Progressive Communicationsといった関係者団体による1年間にわたる議論の成果をまとめたものとのことです。現行の人権に関する法律を現代のデジタル監視にどのように適応するか、また、市民団体、産業界、議員やオブザーバーに対して、既存の人権基準に反した監視の慣行への評価基準を提示するものであるとのことです。
2013年11月1日時点で、288機関および専門家4名が同原則に署名しているようです。
