巣箱のような本の貸出ポストをつくって地域住民への読書推進活動を行っている“Little Free Library”が、米国のシラキュース大学にも登場するようです。ウィスコンシンで始まったLittle Free Librayは、地域住民に本を無料で貸し出して読書活動を推進し、地域コミュニティのアイデンティティ形成を促すとともに、アンドリュー・カーネギーを超える2,510館以上の「図書館」建設を目標としたプロジェクトのようです。現在、シラキュース大学の情報学部（Shool of Information Studies）等を中心に、同大学の図書館員やデザイナー等のグループが、学内の設置場所や蔵書のテーマについて検討を続けているようです。
