米国の図書館情報資源振興財団（CLIR）のウェブサイトに、共同リポジトリHathiTrustに収録されている資料のデータを基に、学術図書館の所蔵資料全体に占めるパブリックドメイン資料や孤児作品（著作権者不明の資料）の割合を推定した文献が掲載されています。HathiTrustのエグゼクティブ・ディレクターであるJohn P. Wilkin氏によるもので、結論部分では、パブリックドメイン資料の割合は3分の1未満とみられること、孤児作品の割合は50％程度になるとみられることなどが示されています。
