2010年7月、シカゴ建築・デザイン博物館（The Chicago Athenaeum）とヨーロッパ建築アートデザイン都市研究センター（The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies）が行っている国際建築賞2010（International Architecture Awards 2010）が発表され、図書館建築としては、秋田県の国際教養大学図書館、カナダのBloor Gladstone Library、米国のKirkwood Public Library、アイルランドのWestmeath County Buildings and Libraryの4館が受賞しています。
