デンマーク電子研究図書館（Danmarks Elektroniske Fag- og Forskningsbibliotek）が、レポート「研究と研究図書館の将来」（The Future of Research and the Research Library）を公開しています。レポートでは、数多くの課題と将来に向けたシナリオが記されており、将来的な研究図書館の機能として以下の3つを挙げています。
・資料の提供と学習プロセスのサポートを行う学習センター
・研究グループとの共同により知識の生成を行う知識センター
・知識を統合するためのきっかけとなるメタ知識機関
