英国ダーラム州にあるダーリントンのカウンシルでは、1,250万￡の予算削減が予定されたため、ダーリントン図書館（Crown Street Library、Cockerton Library、移動図書館）が閉館の危機を迎えています。Crown Street libraryは、ストックトン・アンド・ダーリントン鉄道の創設者であるエドワード・ピーズの親族（エドワード・ピーズ）の支援によって、1885年（ヴィクトリア朝）に開館した図書館ですが、ダーリントンのカウンシルは、これを売却し、移転することを予定しています。
これに対し、地元の新聞社“Northern Echo”が、図書館を救うべく、“Save Crown Street Library”と題したキャンペーンを実施し、2016年4月18日の“Northern Echo”紙によると、賛同者の数は1,700名に及んでいるとのことです。作家のフィリッパ・グレゴリー氏、アン・ファイン氏らも署名しており、地元の若者たちがポスターを作成して、この活動への支援するなど、広がりを見せているようです。
