英国のALMA-UK（Archives Libraries & Museums Alliance UK）が、公共図書館の経済的価値に関する調査レポートを公表しています。またあわせて、その調査に関するツールキットを公開しています。
調査レポートは、スコットランド（50館）、ウェールズ（25館）、北アイルランド（8館）の公共図書館の協力により行われたもので、合計で4000人以上の利用者が調査に回答しているとのことです。
サマリーによると以下のような結果が伝えられています。
・公共図書館の金銭的価値は、利用者の1訪問あたりスコットランド：24.10ポンド、ウェールズ26.38ポンド、北アイルランド27.27ポンドである。図書館の支出（コスト）の、6倍程度となっている。
・図書館施設の運営により地域に生み出される雇用は、2012年-13年で、スコットランド：1,296件、ウェールズで596件、北アイルランドで327件となっている。
