米国議会図書館（LC）が、米国のテレビ及びラジオの公共放送の歴史的コレクションを、“American Archive of Public Broadcasting”として恒久的に保存し、提供する事業に取組むことを発表しています。ボストンの公共放送局であるWGBHと共同して実施するとのことです。
発表によると、2007年に、放送局を支援するNPOであるCPB（Corporation for Public Broadcasting）が公共放送の目録作成に着手し、番組、編集前の映像やインタビュー等、250万件のリストをまとめていたようです。今後2年間の目標として、これらのリストをインターネットで提供するとともに、40,000時間分のコンテンツのデジタル化を進め、そのデータをLCのシステムに取り込み長期保存していく、という計画のようです。
