Public Knowledgeが、2013年1月29日付けで、3Dプリンタと著作権の関係をテーマにした白書“What’s the Deal with Copyright and 3D Printing?”を公表しました。PDF版とHTML版が無料公開されているほか、Amazon.comでKindle版が販売されています。3Dプリンタでは様々な“もの”の複製が可能ですが、この白書では複製の際に発生しうる著作権侵害という問題を扱っています。その前提として、それらの“もの”が著作権法などによってどのように保護されているのかあるいはいないのかについて、具体的な例を挙げつつ、検討・整理しています。
Public Knowledgeは、2010年11月にも“It Will Be Awesome if They Don’t Screw it Up: 3D Printing, Intellectual Property, and the Fight Over the Next Great Disruptive Technology”という白書を刊行しており、この問題に関するより広範な議論に興味のある読者に対して一読を薦めています。
