PLoS ONE出版代表のPeter Binfield氏が、2012年5月18日でPLoSを去り、オープンアクセス出版社“PeerJ”を立ち上げるそうです。同社が2012年秋に創刊する予定の査読付きオープンアクセス誌では、論文ごとに投稿料を支払うのではなく、99ドルの会費を支払うことで生涯投稿が可能になるというモデルを採用するようです。この価格設定について、PeerJのウェブサイトには「100ドルでヒトゲノム解析ができることが目標とされているのなら、学術出版でも同じことができるのではないか」（If we can set a goal to sequence the human genome for $100, then why can’t we do the same for academic publishing?）と書かれています。ブログ“Scholarly Kitchen”が“The Open Access Price Wars Have Begun”と題した記事でこの動きを取り上げています。
